DMCC Round Two. Stratotech Raceway, Fort Sask, Alberta.

July 31st 2011 was our round two competition out at Stratotech Raceway, I have always loved driving at this track and when I found out near the end of 2010 that we would be coming back I was pretty excited! I woke up that day and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, it was going to be a beautiful day! Two years ago we drifted at this track and got poured on, so it was nice to see the weather was going to cooperate. I decided since the track was only an hour away and it was such a nice day out, that maybe just this once i would drive my car out to the track instead of throwing it onto a trailer. After being followed halfway across town by a police officer I hit the highway and was off to the track! Once arriving at the track I set up my area and suited up for the drivers meeting! Formula D driver and DMCC judge Ian Fournier explained what the judges were looking for and how we should attack the course.

During morning practice I was finding it difficult to hit the entry and connect it with the rest of the course. I talked with most of the other drivers and it seemed like each person was entering the course differently. By the time qualifying came around I was nailing the course every time and was a whole lot less frustrated. I managed to qualify 8th place with a pretty rad one wheel rock pit drop

I was paired up for tandem with Chad Sager, an Edmonton driver who can drive his s13 Silvia quite well.

On my follow run Chad went quite a bit slower than I was expecting and I didn’t have the proper speed I was used to entering with. Right off the line I followed very close and due to lacking speed I lost drift on the entry.

My lead run was almost flawless, and due to Chad doing a double tire dirt drop on his lead run, and straightening on his follow fun I was awarded the win onto top 8!

My top 8 battle would be with Devin Horsley, the driver of an SR powered AE86! I had been paired up with Devin two times in 2010 and I moved on both times, so I was feeling pretty good about how this battle was going to turn out. He is however an amazing driver and always stays consistent so I didn’t want to get too over confident.

My follow run, as with Chad, felt way too slow compared to my single and lead runs. I messed up again and straightened out a bit! I was a little frustrated to say the least.

My lead run was once again great! It might have been my best run of the day.

I was hoping for the win but with my straighten I knew there was a solid chance that i would be out. When we pulled up to the line to announce the driver who was moving on, they announced my name! I was really surprised and figured that maybe Devin had spun while following. When I drove back around to line up for top 4 they realized that a mistake was made and Devin did in fact move on. I was pretty disappointed and a few people were fairly pissed off that my name was called by mistake. Overall it was a great day and I had a blast!
